Computer Science & AI

Combining familiar LEGO® elements with artificial intelligence into tangible interactive experiences that transform abstract computational thinking.

Safe, privacy-first AI literacy

All AI processing is handled on the device, so students can engage with AI safely without data transfer to the cloud.

Physical-to-digital interactivity

Using sensors and motors, models respond to real-world triggers, physical poses and custom AI classifiers.

Seamless whole-school progression

Bridge foundational coding logic for early readers all the way to pro programming using IDEs like VS Code.

30-lesson scope & sequence

Each grade-band kit comes with 30 fully structured learning experiences available on the free Teacher Portal.

LEGO® Education Computer Science & AI 5+

Introduce your learners to foundational computational thinking and problem-solving through storytelling and simple physical mechanisms.

Children learn to break problems down (decomposition), build algorithms and understand how hardware inputs create software outputs.

LEGO® Education Computer Science & AI 8+

Build deeper programming fluency while introducing pupils to how computers learn from data.

Students programme models to respond to conditions, store information in variables and interact with pretrained AI classification models.

LEGO® Education Computer Science & AI 11+

Prepare secondary students for advanced computer science qualifications and real-world software engineering.

Students create modular code, build multi-motor robotic systems and transition from block-based programming to text-based Python.

All you need for effective learning

The Coding Canvas App

The LEGO® Education Coding Canvas is a lightweight, responsive web app (also available for iOS on the App Store) engineered specifically to eliminate technical barriers in the classroom.

Zero student logins

Compatible with all major operating systems

All student work is saved on-device

Adheres to strict school data protection and GDPR guidelines

Age-appropriate AI & computer vision

Rather than treating AI as an abstract magic box or relying on text-generating chatbots, LEGO Education’s approach allows children to get hands on with AI abilities without risk.

Access computer vision as a sensor

Train custom machine learning classifiers, like recognising hand gestures or physical poses

Write code that triggers physical reactions in their LEGO models when the AI recognises a match

Fosters critical evaluation and ethical AI literacy

Frequently asked questions

No. The platform uses a frictionless “Lesson PIN” system designed specifically to protect pupil privacy and save lesson time.

Teachers generate and display a 4-digit PIN on the classroom board, which pupils enter into the web-based Coding Canvas app to immediately load their building instructions and starter code. No student accounts, email addresses or logins are ever required.

No. All computer vision processing and AI model training take place locally on the classroom device (Chromebook, PC, Mac or iPad). No photos, video feeds or pupil data are every uploaded to cloud servers or shared with third parties, ensuring total compliance with UK GDPR and school safeguarding standards.

The curriculum units are mapped directly to Key Stage 1, 2 and 3 National Curriculum Computing objectives.

Across the three age bands, lessons cover fundamental concepts including algorithm design, decomposition, loops, conditionals and variables, while introducing vital modern topics such as machine learning, computer vision and ethical AI literacy.

Primary pupils (KS1 & KS2) use intuitive Icon and Word Blocks based on Scratch logic. When pupils move to the Year 7-9 (KS3) kit, the Coding Canvas provides a live, side-by-side view showing how their block logic converts into Python text.

Once comfortable, students can toggle directly to full Python text programming, with optional support for industry-standard IDEs like Visual Studio Code.

No. Access to both the Coding Canvas app and the online Teacher Portal (containing all 30 lesson plans per age band, slide presentations and assessment rubrics) is completely free. There are no recurring software licences, user fees or hidden subscription costs.
